50th Reunion DVD Coming Soon

Those of you who attended our 50th Reunion, I am sure are wondering where the DVD is. Vicky and I are hard at work and hope to complete it soon. Thank you to all of you who contributed pictures and video clips from the reunion. Going through these and picking the best ones that tell the story to include on the DVD was not a simple task.

When the DVD is completed, it will include not only pictures and video clips from the Reunion weekend, but also glimpses of life for us when we were at Leuzinger. Special thanks goes out to Wes Rizor for providing video (actually shot on film – there was no video back then) that his dad took during 1962 and 1963. A short sample of raw footage is shown below.

1962 Track Meet

For those of you who were unable to attend the reunion, you will be able to buy a copy of the DVD when it is released. Information on how to do that will be emailed to you, as well as posted here. So make sure you keep your email address current with us.

In the meantime everyone, continue to be patient. 🙂

P.S. Soon I will be redoing the blog and our home page – our 50th Reunion is history now.

50th Reunion Deadline for Buying Tickets

Over the past many months, I have heard from many of you that you were hoping to come to the reunion if various things worked out. I suspect there are many more of you out there that are thinking that as well. Those of you in the semi-local area certainly may have been waiting to commit.

Well, the time has come for you to decide on whether or not you are going to join the rest of us at our 50th Reunion. In all likelihood, this will be our last formal reunion on this scale. Do you really want to let this opportunity slip away?

The drop dead date to submit your completed Questionnaire and/or order your Reunion ticket is Thursday, August 29th. Remember, even if you are not planning on attending the reunion, we would still very much like to receive a Questionnaire from you!

We have one more surprise for those of you who do attend. During the program Saturday night, there will be a drawing for a truly fantastic  gift! The drawing will be open to only those in attendance.

Check your inboxes over the next few days for more details.

50th Reunion – Optional Trip to Catalina

For those of you who have been following our blog and reading our emails regarding our upcoming 50th Reunion, you know we are planning an optional trip to Catalina on Sunday, September 8th. The prime summer season for Catalina ends the prior weekend, the Labor Day weekend, so it is unlikely that long lead-time reservations, or any reservations will be needed.

Click here to see the boat schedule and cost.

This will be a great way to cap off your Reunion Weekend! Come see how little Avalon has changed since 1963. By the way, the golfers among you may want to check out the golf course on Catalina. The boat schedule certainly can accommodate a round of golf while your on the island.  Click here to find out more.

Everyone on our email distribution list, should have received the email repeated below.

Remember, the contest ends June 15th!

Have you been putting off buying your reunion ticket, waiting for a former classmate to show up on the Who’s Attending List.

Are you living in Southern CA and would most likely be able to attend without even needing to stay overnight? Many of you do.

Have you communicated with a former classmate about both of you and/or your spouse attending, but neither of you have actually bought your tickets?

Have you already bought your ticket, and wish one or more of your classmates would join you at the reunion?

Well, this is what you have been waiting for.

What’s better than a 50th reunion?  Getting it for free!

We have a short-term opportunity to pass on to those of you who plan to attend, but just haven’t pulled the trigger and sent in your money yet.  A classmate who can’t attend has donated the cash equivalent of a couple’s ticket.

Every new attendee who signs up and sends their money to Dave Akins by June 15th will be given a lottery ticket for each reunion ticket they buy (a couple counts as two tickets).  At the reunion, the lottery tickets will be used in a drawing, with the winner to be reimbursed for two reunion tickets ($230 cash).  A single classmate can actually make money by attending if he or she signs up now.   Of course, a couple can only break even, at best, and there’s probably a joke buried in that observation somewhere, but I digress.

Just to be fair to everyone who’s already paid,  if you have someone you want to see at the reunion that hasn’t signed up yet, call them or email them NOW and get them to commit.  When they pay, ask them to identify you as their “sponsor” and we’ll set aside a lottery ticket for you, too, for every time you’re identified as a sponsor.   And of course, anyone who purchases a ticket now can recruit other classmates and increase his or her chances of winning by becoming sponsors themselves.

We’ll keep tabs of everyone who commits between now and June 15th, as well as their sponsors. When checking in at the reunion, lottery tickets will be issued for everyone buying a ticket during this two-week contest period, as well as their sponsors.  we’ll issue your ticket and those for any one sponsor you designate at that time.  Designation of a sponsor will be completely voluntary and done on the honor system: if they were instrumental in getting you to commit during the time of this offer, they qualify for a sponsorship ticket  if you say they do.  If you choose to not designate a sponsor, you increase your own chances of winning.  If you name a sponsor, you’ll be rewarding them for making the reunion better by ensuring your attendance.

The Honorable David Akins will be the sole judge of what ticket purchases have been received during the contest period.

One final note, if you know of a classmate you want to work on, but do not know how to contact them, email Don Stouder at donstouder@ca.rr.com. We will provide you our best contact information for them.

We need your support!

LHS 63 and My Email Problems

I just discovered that my outgoing email has not been going anywhere, even though it is sitting in my Sent folder. This problem goes back to 2/1/13. I still cannot send email in my normal way.

There have been a couple of emails I have sent to our class since the problem began. I am still unable to send these again. I am not sure why the problem exists, but I will get it fixed as soon as I can.

To those of you who returned your completed questionnaire, I believe I have received it. I do appear to be receiving email just fine. I did reply to each of you who have returned your questionnaire thanking you. Of course you never got it. Sad smile

One of the emails that went out to everyone, but failed was resending the original questionnaire, but adding a Microsoft Word document as well as a PDF document in the attachments. I will resend that email as soon as I can, but in the meantime, you can access the two versions from the links below.

Questionnaire – PDF Version

Questionnaire – Microsoft Word Format

These files will remain online even after I clear up the email problem and resend the subject email.

I apologize for any inconvenience this problem may have caused. Computers are great as long as everything works right.

Missing Classmates List 6 of 6

I have posted five installments of our Missing Classmates list. You can see each one of these posts by scrolling down this blog. In this post, I have included the sixth and final installment. I chose to break our total list into pieces in these posts, so that we could focus a few classmates at a time.

Please look through this final list. If you know how to contact any of the people on it or know how to contact a sibling or close friend, please email me the information.

Also, as I said early on, if you would like to volunteer to find a friend you have lost track of since high school, please let me know. I will send you the latest leads that will hopefully help you reconnect with them. Having you do this would be very helpful to us. We just don’t have the time to research and run down each one of the potential addresses/phones for the over 120 classmates that are missing.

Also, if you know what city or state one of our missing classmates last lived, that would be very helpful as well. With that information, we can generate much better leads as to their whereabouts.

Remember, you can view the complete list at the link below, which we keep updated as the list changes – hopefully getting smaller.

Remember, do not forget to order your tickets to our 50th Reunion. You do not want to miss this. It may very well be our last reunion, at least on the scale of this one. If you have any questions regarding the reunion that are not available online at the link below, do not hesitate to email me. If you have a question, most likely there are others who have a similar one.

Now for the sixth and final list.

Class of 1963 Missing List–No. 5

At the bottom of this post is the fifth of our series of missing classmates. We have one more list in our series, which will be posted in a few days.If you have any information regarding where they last lived, friends or relatives who might know something about please email me the information. Also, the committee can also use help in following up on leads that we have received, by calling or emailing a postcard to potential classmates. If you have someone who you would like to volunteer to track down, please let me know. I will provide you the lead information we have collected.

For our 1963 classmates, if you have not done so yet, please take the survey and let us know whether or not you would like to have our 50th Reunion have a 50/60s Theme. Here is the link.

It’s time to think about ordering your tickets to our 50th Reunion. Here is the link for that.

Don’t hesitate to email me any questions or information you have about our missing classmates.
